Challenges/Issues

Due to the development delay in several domains, autistic child may face problems in blending and participating in activities. They may have difficulties in following instructions and rules set by the teachers. Sometimes teachers have to resort to take them out of the activities which cause them to neglect the child. Teachers may find it challenging to handle autistic child because their behavior are unpredictable and it requires a lot of time and effort for them to establish a relationship with the child. Other children may be judgmental towards this child and unwilling to befriend with the child because the child is “different”.

They may have difficulties focusing on details and integrating information during lessons that sets them back from learning as fast as other children. An autistic child would often lose attention during lessons thus, unable to absorb and remember the information that is taught. As their learning pace is different compared to other children, teachers may find it challenging to accommodate everyone’s learning needs. However, despite the challenges they may face, there are still ways and adaptations to overcome it.
